Available Proteins
The original ‘Motivated Proteins’ site aims to provide access to information on the motifs in about 430 proteins. The user may well wonder the reason for this numerical limitation and the basis for selection of the proteins that are available. The proteins are drawn from the ‘Top 500’ (see Acknowledgments), for which:
- there are high-resolution atomic co-ordinates
- the PDB file has been edited to a single subunit
We would also emphasize that there is a limit to the automation that can be applied to addition of proteins to the database: human intervention is necessary, for example to make scientific decisions on inclusion of ligands. We would hope that the collection of proteins in our database is large enough to be representative, yet small enough to give the user confidence in the reliability of the data.
